Lisbon 2018

RTVE has confirmed it’s participation for 2018

RTVE has confirmed on their website that Spain will be participating in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon in 2018.

Spain in the Eurovision

Spain first participated in 1961 with “Estando Contigo” and achieved a respectable 9th place. Ever since its debut in the contest, the country has won twice.
Spain first won Eurovision in 1968, with Massiel and the song “La, la, la” Spain is also one of the joint winners in 1969 with “Vivo Cantando“. The country has also placed in the top 10 over 20 times.
Despite only winning twice, Spain holds a record of being one of the countries that have won the contest within two consecutive years. Spain holds this record along with Ireland, Israel, and Luxembourg.
Spain has had a moderate success in the contest. Despite not reaching high above in the scoreboard, Spain has never missed a Grand Final since 2000 when it became a member of the Big 5.
This means that regardless of the result, RTVE will automatically qualify for the Grand Final along with France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and the host country of the contest.

“Manel was Doing It for Your Lover”

After a controversial national selection, Manel Navarro was selected to represent Spain in 2017.  However, despite giving a high energy performance in Kyiv, the song placed last. Only received 5 points from their neighboring country Portugal. Aside from the drama during the national final, Manel will sadly also go down in history for the famous cackle. Is the only way up for Spain?

I started watching Eurovision ever since I moved to the UK in 2006, obsessed since 2012 and haven't looked back since.
