Saturday night saw the first artist get voted off NRK’s Battle of the Stars; the hunt for Norway’s Ultimate Entertainer. As we have reported earlier, a total of seven former Melodi Grand Prix/Eurovision Song Contest participants are taking part. Unfortunately, we have to inform you that one of those seven had to leave the show on Saturday.
No one voted off in week 1
The show we saw this weekend was actually the second of the season. However, last week no one got voted off. They do this so that the participants get to show at least two facets of their talent. To decide who would be the first to go, the televotes from the first two programs were added up. The bottom three were Benedicte Adrian, Aleksander Walmann and Hilde Lyråen. All three are among the MGP/ESC artists. Therefore it was unavoidable that one of “our” artists would have to go.
Stadium rock and EMD
“Stadium rock” was the genre in the first program, a program that gave us rock anthems like “Don’t Stop Believing“, “Poison” and “Back In Black“. In contrast, this week the artists performed an EMD track of their choice. Among the chosen songs were hits by Calvin Harris, Robyn, David Guetta and Icona Pop. When the votes from the two first weeks were added up, Hilde Lyrån finished last. She was in the bottom three in both weeks. This means that Aleksander and Benedicte gets another chance nest week.
Favorites in Battle of the Stars
Based on the first two programs it seems Makeda, Erlend, Adam and Lisa might be the early favorites to battle it out for the title. However, we have seen favorites mess up later on in previous seasons, so there are no guarantees. This weekend these four performed “Bang My Head“, “How Deep Is Your Love“, “Dancing On My Own” and “False Alarm“. Judging by these performances; who’s your favorite in the fight to become Norway’s next Ultimate Entertainer?
This is the performance that sent Hilde home.
The third genre in this year’s Battle of the Stars is country music. Who do you think will be the second participant to go?
