The first semi-final of the Junior Songfestival selection for Junior Eurovision 2017 kicked off last Saturday. Three semi-finalists each sang a cover song, with Sezina selected as the winner by the juries.
Last year The Netherlands selected their JESC entry internally. This year however they have revived the Junior Songfestival format. A 100% jury vote decides the winner. The first semi-final had the three acts performing the following songs in front of the juries and an audience.
- Sezina – “Symphony” by Clean Bandit & Zara Larsson
- Montana – “Hold My Hand” by Jess Glyne
- Dreamz – “Chained To The Rhythm” by Katy Perry
Sezina was chosen as the winner, with Montana and Dreamz eligible to be chosen as a wildcard entry for the grand final. Next Saturday is the second semi final, with the wild card being chosen adding a third person to the grand final.
History of The Netherlands in Junior Eurovision
The Netherlands have participated in every edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since it began! They even won the contest in 2009 with Ralf Mackenbach’s ‘Click Clack‘. Last year, Kissescame 8th in Valletta, Malta, with their song ‘Kisses and Dancin‘.
