Tonight, at 20:55 CEST, a concert in support of the Antilles will be broadcast live by several TV and radio stations around the world. A large number of French artists will participate, including artists who represented France at the Eurovision Song Contest.
A terrible hurricane season
As you all know, the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season is the worst since 2005. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Jose did terrible damage to the south of the United States and the many islands of the Antilles, also known as the West Indies.
As we write this article, Hurricane Maria is confirmed to be a category 5 hurricane (the strongest), heading for Porto Rico and the Virgin Islands after striking Dominica and the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique.
France 2 organizes a concert of support
The French territories of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélémy have been badly hit, and a concert of support for the islands will take place tonight at the Casino de Paris, in the French capital. Many artists will participate, from all generations, including former First Lady Carla Bruni and Eurovision artists Amir (2016) and Patrick Fiori (1993).
The concert will be broadcast live on France 2 (the official Eurovision broadcaster in France) and hosted by Marie-Sophie Laccarau and Stéphane Bern. Bern has been one of the Eurovision Finale commentator for France 2 since 2015.
The concert has been organized in a few days only, thanks to the full cooperation between different public medias. It will also be broadcast on France 24 (the French counterpart of BBC World News), TV5 Monde (in France, Belgium, Switzerland, the United States and Latin America), all overseas French channels and on many radios, including Radio France International.
ERRATA : Patrick Fiori didn’t actually participate. His presence in the TV trailer for the show led us to believe he would be there.
