The Swedish music industry certainly still has great interest in Melodifestivalen. SVT have announced that with the submission deadline passed 2771 songs have been submitted for Melodifestivalen 2018.
This is the highest number of submissions since 2012 and up 273 from last year. Of the total songs, 473 were submitted to ‘Allmänhetens Tävling’ (Public Contest) – a platform for songwriters who have not released music professionally before.
“We are very keen to start working with the selection process and are delighted that the interest of both the public and the music industry is still high.” says Melodifestivalen producer Christer Björkman.
From 2771 to 28
Soon a jury will start the selection process, headed by vice contest producer Karin Gunnarsson. The jury will combine their selection with the selections made by SVT to provide the final 28 artists and songs for the Melodifestivalen finals next year.
One place is already reserved for Stiko Per Larsson who won the radio contest ‘P4 Nästa’. Their song for Melodifestivalen is yet to be decided, as their winning song had already been released before. SVT will announce the final 28 acts later in the autumn.
