ERR has posted on the Eesti Laul page to confirm that submissions for the competition are now open. ERR is inviting Estonian artists to submit their entries, but have also mentioned that foreign artists are welcome to co-author songs.
Rules for next years competition also released
ERR has also released the rules for next years Eesti Laul and mentioned a big change which is:
“The winner will be selected by a mixture of Televoting and Jury Voting.”
This could be in response to this years result where Fan favourite Kerli won the jury/televoting result with her song ‘Spirit Animal‘ only to lose out to Koit Toome and Laura in the Superfinal; where only televoting results count. It has however not been confirmed how the split will be in 2018.
Earlier we already reported the ERR had received the first two Eesti Laul submissions. The official period however opened this week.
Estonia in Eurovision in 2017
Koit Toome and Laura represented their Estonia this year in Kyiv. Both musicians have represented Estonia before 2017. Koit represented the nation in 1998 in Birmingham with his song ‘Mere Lapsed‘ where he finished a respectable twelfth Place.
Laura represented Estonia in 2005, where she was part of the girl group Suntribe and sang their song ‘Let’s Get Loud‘. Despite an energetic performance, the girl group failed to qualify for the Grand Final.
Laura and Koit represented Estonia with their song Verona. Despite being a fan favourite and giving a great performance on the Semi Final, they failed to qualify for the Grand Final. They managed to achieve fourteenth Place in their Semi Final.
Are you excited to find out who will compete in Eesti Laul next year? Do you think any of your favourites will return? and Do you think Estonia can qualify for the Grand Final next year?
