Montenegro confirms participation in 2018

RTCG has confirmed that Montenegro will participate in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.
However, the mechanism that Montenegro will use in order to select its entrant is yet to be confirmed.

Slavko was floating in Space

Montenegro has internally selected Slavko Kalezic to represent the Balkan nation with his disco-pop song ‘Space’.

Despite executing a flawless performance in the first semi-final, Slavko, unfortunately, did not make it past the semi-finals finishing 16th Place.
However, Slavko has had some success after appearing in Eurovision. He recently went on to the UK in order to audition for The X Factor UK where has successfully advanced to the boot camp stage of the show.

Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest

Montenegro had quite a history. The country participated under Yugoslavia between 1961 and 1992, where Yugoslavia had won once in 1989 with the song ‘Rock Me‘.
After the break-up of Yugoslavia, Montenegro participated in the contest as part of Serbia and Montenegro in 2004 and 2005, where they managed two consecutive top 10 results.
In 2007, Montenegro went on and debuted in the contest with the song ‘Ajde, kroči‘. Unfortunately Steven Faddy failed to qualify for the Grand Final.
The country has only made it to the Grand Final of the contest in two occasions:

  • 2014  – with Sergej Ćetković and his song ‘Moj Svjet‘ in which he placed 19th in the Grand Final. This is the first occasion in which Montenegro qualified.
  • 2015 – with Knez and his song ‘Adio‘ which placed 13th in the Grand Final. This is Montenegro’s best result to date.

What do you think of Montenegro’s confirmation? Do you think they can qualify for the Grand Final next year? Do you think they can do better and win?

I started watching Eurovision ever since I moved to the UK in 2006, obsessed since 2012 and haven't looked back since.
