Lisbon 2018

SENNEK will represent Belgium in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest!

The time has come! Yes, the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest is now in full swing. In the last few minutes, Belgium has become the first country to announce which artist will represent them in the Portuguese capital city of Lisbon next year. SENNEK, real name Laura Groeseneken, will represent Belgium in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest!

Breaking news!

This morning, news broke that Flemish broadcaster VRT would announce who would represent Belgium at next year’s Eurovision on Eén’s evening talk show Van Gils & Gasten. So, with the show airing from 10pm CET, the moment has arrived and the announcement was made! SENNEK will represent Belgium in next year’s contest! The Belgian song will be revealed in the coming months.

The perfect introduction

To introduce herself, Laura performed an English-language cover of this year’s winning Eurovision entry Amar pelos dois by Salvador Sobral. Give this a watch below, as well as one of her previous songs from her YouTube channel:

Sticking to a successful formula

This is the second time in a row that Belgium have selected their entry internally. This year, RTBF internally selected Blanche to perform City Lights in Kyiv. An immediate fan favourite, Blanche’s unique style earned her country an exceptional fourth-place finish.

With the two Belgian broadcasters alternating organisation of the country’s Eurovision entry, VRT last organised the Belgian entry in 2016. That year, the Flemish broadcaster decided to host a national final. Laura Tesoro was victorious and she earned a top ten finish in Stockholm with What’s The Pressure. Therefore, Belgium find themselves on a run of three consecutive top ten finishes when factoring in Loïc Nottet’s fourth-place finish in 2015 with Rhythm Inside!

What are your thoughts?

So, do you think SENNEK can make it four top ten finishes in a row for Belgium? Perhaps you think they can earn Belgium their second Eurovision victory? Let us know in the comments below!

Ryan Cobb

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
