Rotterdam 2021🇮🇸 Iceland

🇮🇸 Daði Freyr calls for public support in Eurovision “choir”

His entry is nearly ready for Rotterdam!

Just before Christmas, Iceland’s Daði Freyr confirmed that he has finished writing his Eurovision 2021 entry. Now, he’s calling for help from fans to record sound snippets to form a backing choir for his song, which he will perform with Gagnamagnið in Rotterdam.

This year, for the first time ever, pre-recorded backing vocals will be allowed in the contest. The EBU introduced the temporary rule change to keep delegations small during the Covid-19 pandemic. This announcement today suggests that Daði will be using pre-recorded vocals at the contest.

Finding “a new way to grow”?

Speaking on social media, Daði confirmed that he is “almost finished” with his entry for Eurovision 2021, but he plans to have a choir perform backing vocals on the one section of the song.

I want a huge acapella choir part but I don’t have access to a choir right now so I need you to be in the choir.

– Daði Freyr, speaking on social media

People who are interested to take part in the choir must send an audio file of one of the seven vocal parts to [email protected] by 11th January. The vocal parts can be found here.

All recordings must start in the same place as in the examples, and the sounds will make up the lyric, “Finds a new way to grow”.

Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020

Daði, along with his band Gagnamagnið, won the 2020 Icelandic national final with the song “Think About Things”. They were set to represent Iceland at Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam. Daði was no stranger to the Eurovision world, taking part in Söngvakeppnin 2017 with “Is This Love?”.

They quickly became one of the favourites to win. Unfortunately, along with the other 40 acts, they were unable to represent Iceland in Rotterdam due to the contest being cancelled.

Will you be taking part in Daði’s Eurovision choir? Are you excited to hear his Eurovision 2021 entry?
