Albania opening submissions for next Festivali i Këngës

Albania will soon be opening submissions for Festivali i Këngës – their national selection for Eurovision. RTSH, the Albanian broadcaster, have outlined details on submissions this year. The news comes fresh from confirming participation at next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.
RTSH will be accepting submissions from the 2nd to 10th of November, with Festivali i Këngës to take place in December. Artists must submit songs in Albanian and no longer than four minutes long. A committee of music experts chosen by RTSH will decide which songs will take part in December’s show.

The 56th edition of Festivali i Këngës

This year’s Festivali i Këngës will be the 56th edition, having ran annually since 1962. RTSH adapted the show in 2003 for it to decide the Eurovision entrant before debuting at the contest in 2004. Albania are known for being one of the first countries to decide the singer and song for Eurovision, with the entry often being revamped by the time of the contest. Lindita Halimi won the contest in 2016 with ‘Botë’, later revamped into ‘World’ for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.
