This evening, the Portuguese national selection for the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place. Mariana Venâncio was awarded the honour of representing Portugal in their Junior Eurovision comeback. She will perform the previously announced songYoutuber. Congratulations Mariana!

Five young talents battled it out

In this evening’s show, Juniores de Portugal, five talented young artists battled it out to win the right to sing Youtuber in Tbilisi. The song has been written by João Cabrita and Mariana Andrade. Furthermore, each act sang a second song of their own choice in order to try and win the votes from both the viewers and the jury.
The jury consisted of three Eurovision-connected musicians. These were previous Portuguese Eurovision representatives Carlos Mendes (1968 and 1972) and Inês Santos (1998) as well as this year’s Festival da Canção finalist Pedro Gonçalves.

Breakdown of results

The full results of this evening’s show were as follows:

Place Artist Televote Jury Total

2nd Filipa Ferreira 4 5 9
3rd Margarida Lima 3 2 5
4th Matilde Leite 2 3 5
5th Duarte Valença 1 1 2

Ryan Cobb

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
