🇬🇧 BBC to broadcast “Eurovision: Come Together” on 16th May

Bringing the country together!

With Eurovision 2020 cancelled, the BBC have confirmed they will be producing a replacement show, “Eurovision: Come Together”, for British viewers. The show will be presented by the BBC’s Eurovision commentator, Graham Norton.

The programme will be produced by BBC Studios and broadcast on BBC One. It will feature classic Eurovision performances, interviews and a look at the entries that would have took part in 2020. “Eurovision: Come Together” is part of the BBC’s plans to “entertain the nation in time of need”.

Replacing the cancelled event

“Eurovision: Come Together” will replace the Eurovision final broadcast, which was due to take place on 16th May. It joins the BBC programming alongside the new Glastonbury Experience, which will replace broadcasts of the world-famous music festival, which was also cancelled last week.

In a press release today, “Eurovision: Come Together” is described by the BBC Director-General as a show to bring together the nation in uncertain times.

We can all still have a Eurovision moment, even if it is different from the past. Our pledge is to offer the best escapism, fun and distraction we can, alongside the news and information everyone needs.

– Tony Hall, BBC Director-General

Alongside classic Eurovision performances, the show will feature interviews with the the UK’s entry James Newman, alongside “a look at what would have been in 2020”.

James Newman was set to represent the United Kingdom in Rotterdam with his song, “My Last Breath”. It was the first internally selected British entry since 2015. The song was co-written by James Newman alongside Ed Drewett, Adam Argyle and Iain James. Iain James is no stranger to Eurovision songwriting. He wrote the 2011 winning song, “Running Scared” and the 2013 Belgian entry, “Love Kills”.
