Alternative Eurovision
At Eurovision, we mostly hear Europop, ballads and ethnic songs. However, there had been plenty of participants who don’t fall into any of those musical genres. Since their music does not fit into the mainstream, they are considered “Alternative”. As the word suggests, an alternative to the pop-centric songs that usually compete at Eurovision.
Sending an “alternative song” to Eurovision is always risky. However, in 2006 Finland’s Lordi won the contest with the heavy metal song “Hard Rock Hallelujah”.
