An Xtra Happy Birthday; October 25th

Yesterday we celebrated two Eurostars, one were none other than the one and only Serhat! Today we send our greetings to another three Eurovision singers! They are from Belgium, Germany and Iceland. One of them is even a Eurovision winner; Nicole, who turns 53 today!

Robert Cogoi, 78

Robert Cogoi represented Belgium at the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. There he performed his own song “Près de ma rivière”. He finished in joint 10th place out of 16 participating countries.

Nicole Seibert, 53

Nicole Seibert represented Germany at the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest in Harrogate. She won the contest with Ralph Siegel’s song “Ein bißchen Frieden”, eventually giving Germany their first victory. “Ein bißchen Frieden” later went on to become one of the most successful winners in the history of the contest. Consequently is was translated to more than ten languages, for instance Czech and Norwegian! Nicole herself recorded five different versions of the song, in different languages or combination of languages.

Pálmi Sigurhjartarson, 52

Pálmi represented Iceland at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Dusseldorf. He did so as part of the group Sjonni’s Friends. In their semi-final they were the tenth and last qualifier to be called. As a result they became one of the 25 finalists. They performed the song “Coming Home”, finishing 20th in the grand final. Pálmi is the group’s piano player.

All of us here at escXtra extend out warmest congratulations to Nicole, Pálmi and Robert! A very happy birthday to all three on their birthday!
