We are almost there! The Junior Eurovision Song Contest is coming closer and closer. Today we take you back to the contest of 2015, which took place in Bulgaria. Do you remember Destiny and her “Not My Soul”?

Throwback to Junior Eurovision 2015

The kids version of our beloved Eurovision Song Contest traveled to Sofia, Bulgaria in 2015. A total of 17 countries took part, including debutants Ireland and Australia. We also saw Albania and North Macedonia returning, but we also said goodbye to Croatia, Cyprus and Sweden. Malta seemed to be a totally reborn country since their return in 2013. After Gaia’s win, the little island belonged to the favourites again. This time, Destiny Chukunyere got the honour to represent Malta. She did that with “Not My Soul”, a funky dance song full of soul vibes.

Seeing her winning the contest came as no surprise after she blew away everyone with her outstanding vocals. With a total of 185 points, she beated Maria Isabel with the highest score ever received in the Junior Eurovision history. She received the maximum of 12 points from the Kids Jury, Albania, Armenia, Australia, Bulgaria, San Marino, Serbia and Slovenia.

Destiny’s life in the music world

Destiny entered the music world in 2013. She participated in several music competitions such as Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza in 2014. She also took part in SanRemo Junior, which was her first international experience. In summer 2015, Destiny won the national final for Junior Eurovision later that year. There, she covered “Think” by Aretha Franklin.

After she won Junior Eurovision 2015, Destiny and her team received “The Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika“. An important reward in honour of what she did to make the republic.

Britain’s Got Talent 2017

As she clearly loves competitions, Destiny kicked off her next challenge. She signed up for Britain’s Got Talent in 2017. After a pretty successful journey including some praise words from Simon Cowell, she placed 6th in the semi-final and thus was eliminated.

The big Eurovision

Before she attempted to take part in the adult Eurovision herself, Destiny already got a little taste of it. In 2016 she appeared in Stockholm as the JESC 2015 winner, in 2019 she joined Michela’s delegation as one of the background singers. And of course in 2020 she got chosen to represent Malta herself. She achieved that last honour after winning X Factor Malta.

Due to COVID-19, the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 got cancelled as we all know. However, Destiny’s journey hasn’t ended yet. She still gets her chance to represent Malta in 2021!
