For the second year in a row, a former Eurovision participant managed to reach the final in NRK’s hunt for Norway’s next Ultimate Entertainer; Battle of the Stars. In tonight’s final, Didrik Solli-Tangen, among other songs, performed “My Heart is Yours”. However, he did not win the title, as he was beaten by Adam Douglas.
Repeat performance; Puccini’s “E lucevan le stelle”
In tonight’s final, Didrik had to perform a total of three songs. The first was one of the songs he had done earlier in the contest. For this, Didrik chose his opera performance, “E lucevan le stelle” from the Puccini opera “Tosca”. Both the judges and the televoters agreed, when he did this last time, that he was great. Tonight, however, he was superb!
Original song; “My Heart is Yours”
The second of tonight’s three songs was to be an original song, and Didrik decided to treat us to his Eurovision entry, “My Heart is Yours”. He even wore the same jacket he did in the Norwegian final back in 2010. Granted, they had to make some alterations to it. Because, as Didrik said; “it was a bit tight around the middle”.
Before his performance, he talked a bit about how difficult the years following Eurovision had been. He was not at all happy with his performance back then, and we could feel his discomfort while watching the 2010 clip. Now, he saw it as a chance to take the song back and in a way redeem himself. And did he ever?! After a slightly shaky start, he delivered the best rendition of “My Heart is Yours” he has ever done.
Final performance; “The Sun Always Shines On TV”
As his very last song in Battle of the Stars, Didrik chose one of the true Norwegian classics; a-ha’s “The Sun Always Shines On TV”. This is an incredibly hard song to sing! But despite, again, a slightly shaky start, Didrik managed to make the song his own. As Knut Anders said after the performance; he was part Morten Harket and part Didrik, and that’s about as good as it gets!
Norway voted for Adam
However, despite Didrik’s phenomenal performances tonight, the Norwegian people gave their votes to Adam Douglas, making him the first American winner of Battle of the Stars! Congratulations, Adam!
NRK has already hinted that there will be another season of Battle of the Stars next year. Are there any Norwegian singers you would like to see in the 2018 edition? If so, please let us know in the comments’ section! We, at least, hope that there will be just as many MGP/ESC related names on the list as this year! Obviously!
