The Scoop

Junior Eurovision star Julia on The Voice of Holland

2014 Junior Eurovision star Julia van Bergen returned to Dutch television last night. Now seventeen years old, the singer appeared on The Voice of Holland to audition for the judges. With four turned chairs, it’s fair to say that Julia impressed them.

Julia chooses Waylon

Three years after finishing eighth in Junior Eurovision with Around, the singer spends most of her time on vlogging. Her singing dream was however far from over and thus she looked to renew that career on the talent show.
Auditioning with 2U by David Guetta and Justin Bieber, it didn’t take Julia any time to convince the jury. Within ten seconds, judge Anouk turned her chair. Ali B, Waylon and Sanne Hans soon followed.
Julia was in doubt who to choose as her coach, but it seemed her Eurovision heart was still beating. Her top two choices were Anouk, who represented the Netherlands in 2013, and Waylon, former member of The Common Linnets. She eventually made the choice to join Team Waylon.

Following OG3NE?

It’s not the first time a former Junior Eurovision star appears on The Voice of Holland. A few years ago, 2007 Junior Eurovision entrants Lisa, Amy and Shelley famously won the show under their new name OG3NE. They of course went on to represent their country in Eurovision 2017, finishing in eleventh.
Even in this edition of The Voice of Holland, Julia isn’t the only Junior Eurovision hopeful. Tjindjara Metschendorp tried to represent her country in Junior Eurovision 2005 with Blijf Jezelf. She lost out on the ticket to Tess. She is also through to the battle round after performing Pink’s What About Us.

Less luck for Axeela

To keep the Eurovision connections going, Belgian singer Axeela made an appearance as well last night. Back in 2014, Axeela participated in Eurosong 2014 for Belgium. In a strong semifinal, her Chasing Rainbows failed to make the final.
Her luck on her neighbours’ version of The Voice was very limited. As the opening act of the show, Axeela failed to convince any of the coaches, with timing clearly being her main issue in Zayn’s Pillowtalk.
