The latest artist to rehearse is Gromee feat. Lukas Meijer for Poland. We have just watched their first run through of Light Me Up live on screen and here is our initial reaction.

Staging

The opening shot of the performance is Lukas, with an immediate switch to Gromee behind his DJ decks. The camera constantly switches behind the two throughout the track. Gromee’s DJ deck and the surrounding stage lighting begin in blue, and change to pink for the chorus.
During the first chorus, we see the three backing vocalists to the right of Gromee, with a guitarist to the left. As we approach the first instrumental, we see Gromee do his arm snake dance to a camera behind him at the back of the stage and we get pyro fountains as the instrumental hits.
For the final chorus and breakdown, Lukas moves to the outer ring of the stage and there’s a tease that more pyro fountains will be employed at this point.

Vocals

Lukas’ vocals are solid and effectively achieve the anthemic nature of the track, particularly as he soars towards the end. The backing vocalists provide adequate support to Lukas.

Costumes

All of the Polish performers are dressed in black. Gromee and Lukas are both wearing their black hats as has been the case throughout this Eurovision party season. Black jackets, black jeans, black tops. It’s very cohesive!
