The Ukrainian State Audit Office has revealed that, due to fraud and “financial irregularities”, over €300,000 from the Eurovision 2017 budget was lost.
The 11,400,000 Ukrainian Hryvnia, (about €364,000) was lost through some shady contracts. 2,800,000 UAH was lost due to “excessive spending” by contractors, while the remaining 8,600,000 UAH was lost through “accounting irregularities”.
Millions of Euros more lost to other Eurovision contracts
Furthermore, another 400,000,000 UAH (almost €13 million) was lost after contracts were not correctly processed. For example, one company that won a contract for Eurovision 2017 to supply metal detectors for the venue for 2,700,000 UAH. However, it has now transpired that they went on to sell the contract to another company for 1,200,000 UAH, leaving the original contract winner with 1,500,000 UAH.
The State Audit Office of Ukraine has passed the evidence on to law enforcement agencies in Ukraine who will decide if and how to punish the people behind this.
