Sanremo 2018: 12 finalists revealed for Sarà Sanremo

After the newcomers’ audition on November 6th in Rome, a total of twelve finalists were selected to compete in “Sarà Sanremo” . The gala will be broadcast on RAI 1 on December 12th, 2017, where six finalists will be selected to compete in the “Nuove Proposte” (newcomers’ section) for Sanremo 2018.

Two songs disqualified

Two of the sixty-nine competing songs were disqualified for breaching the rules. “Pace” by Raimondo Cataldo was found to had already been submitted the year prior. Alberto Polcini’s “Power of Love” was also out of the competition, after it was found the song was released via streaming on a compilation album prior to the audition. This left the audition with sixty-seven songs, as oppose to sixty-nine.

Sarà Sanremo

Six of the eight finalists to the “Nuove Proposte” will be selected via Sarà Sanremo. This gala will be broadcast by RAI 1 on November 12th, 2017. The public will have the chance to watch postcards of the participating artists. After all the songs are performed, there will be an open voting which will see the number of participants decrease from twelve to eight. The second round of voting will be secret, and will see two further participants eliminated.
The jury of Sarà Sanremo will be composed by professional musicians: Massimo Ranieri, Anna Foglietta, Amadeus, Fabio Canino and Andrea Delogu.

Area Sanremo

The six finalists of “Sarà Sanremo” will then be joined by two artists selected by the RAI commission via “Area Sanremo”. A total of 145 artists were shortlisted on October 31st to participate in the contest, to take place at the end of November. A total of eight artists will be participating in the newcomers’ section of Sanremo 2018.

Sanremo 2018

The Sanremo Song Festival 2018 will take place between February 6th and 10th, 2018 at the Teatro Aristo di Sanremo. The winner of the “Big Artist” category will have the option to compete for Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.
