Norway Melodi Grand Prix 2018 songs to be released January 15th

Norway’s songs for the national selection Melodi Grand Prix are set to be released on January 15th. In a change to previous years, the songs will be released in full two months before the final on March 10th.
Stig Karlsen, Melodi Grand Prix’s producer, has spoken to ESCNorge about the changes being made to the way the songs are revealed. In 2018 the songs will be released in full a month earlier than usual and two months before the final. NRK will hold a press conference on January 15 at their Store Studio.
NRK have also changed the way the songs are selected for the final. A set of focus groups made up of people of different ages as well as NRK music editors have been offering their input in the selection process. Stig Karlsen explains: “We have done this to see if there are any of the submitted songs that stand out in all the groups and thus have greater impact than the others”.

A record number of songs

A record number of approximately 1000 songs were submitted for Melodi Grand Prix 2018. The winner of the 2018 final will be hoping to follow and maybe improve upon the success of 2017’s JOWST.  The duo finished in 10th place at Eurovision with the song ‘Grab the Moment’.
