Eurovision acts are victorious at the MTV EMAs!

The 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards were held last night in London with Rita Ora serving as the hostess. Shawn Mendes was the big winner of the night with three awards. And while loads of Eurovision stars were among the nominees, three of them managed to win an award.

Eurovision singers are victorious!

Two recent Eurovision acts have managed to win an award at the event; 2015 Belgian entrant Loïc Nottet and 2016 French entrant Amir! This was Loïc’s first nomination for the award and won over Belgian acts including Lost Frequencies. On the other hand, Amir was nominated for Best French Act last year too (and actually won it).

However, the two men are not the only Eurovision acts that went home with an EMA award last night. Magdi Rúzsa, who represented Hungary in 2007, won the award for Best Hungarian Act. Magdi faced competition from fellow Eurovision acts Freddie (2016) and Joci Pápai (2017) as well as Gabi Tóth (A Dal 2017).

What do you think of the award winners? Do you think the Eurovision acts deserved their victories?

Dimitris Ioannou

I'm Dimitris, from Cyprus. Eurovision has been a big part of my life for so long now. My first memories of the contest go back to 2005, which was a special year as Greece had won with Helena Paparizou. But 2009 was truly the first year I became a die-hard Eurofan, which is why that year holds a special place in my heart.
