It has been confirmed that Germany will not be doing a live broadcast of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017 on Eurovision.de. The hopes of seeing Germany in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest seem to fade away.
No German Broadcast
Despite not having participated in the Junior Eurovision Contest, Germany has broadcasted the Junior Eurovision on Eurovision.de in the past few years. In addition to broadcasting the contest, they also provide German commentary.
The cancelling of the Eurovision.de stream also means that German viewers will either have to tune in to foreign channels or the official Junior Eurovision stream on YouTube.
Germany in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest?
Originally, Germany wanted début in the contest in 2004. However, they withdrew for an unknown reason. After their failed first attempt, a début was highly unlikely for at least ten years.
ARD/NRD have been observing the contest since 2014 and 2015 and has even consulted the public as to whether or not Germany should participate. The broadcasters seem to be interested in participating in the Junior Eurovision. However, both channels are eager to get children’s channel KiKa on board. KiKa are however seemingly unwilling to take a chance at participation, fearing the project is too big for them. Their show Dein Song would be the choice of national final for the Germans, if a début would ever happen.
According to close sources, the three channels have not been able to reach an agreement in the past years, with NDR now giving up on the task. That might mean a début is, also for the next couple of years, far away.
What do you think of all the recent events?Do you think Germany should’ve continued with the broadcast? Do you think Germany in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will ever happen?
