This week we had the press conference and got the 28 competing artists for Melodifestivalen 2018. Even though it was rumoured, that SVT wants Alcazar to be part of the show and they were looking out for good songs, they are not part of the 2018 line-up. Why? Andreas Lundstedt now wrote on Instagram, that he thinks they got rejected because their song was too good!
Winning team wrote for Alcazar
The song that Alcazar wanted to compete with is written by well-established songwriter Linnéa Debb and Joy Debb, who previously wrote Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Heroes” and Robin Stjernberg’s “You”. Since Tuesday we know for sure, that they didn’t made it to the 28 acts for next years shows.
Was SVT afraid?
Andreas Lundstedt speculates on his Instagram that SVT rather wants another winner for next years Melodifestivalen and was therefore afraid, that Alcazar could win it all in their sixth attempt in 2018.
Alcazar will celebrate the 2oth anniversary in 2018 and according to Lundstedt, there is a lot to look forward to. Even though they won’t take part in Melodifestivalen.
Melodifestivalen’s producer Christer Björkman answers Lundstedt via text:
“We have had a great variety of materials to choose from this year and just this time, Alcazar did not get fit in our mix,” he says.
What do you think? Would SVT be afraid of Alcazar winning Melodifestivalen and do you miss them in the competition? Who is your favourite of the 28 competing acts? Let us know in the comments below or on social media @ESCXTRA.
