Lisbon 2018

Christer Björkman helping Cyprus select its act for Lisbon

CyBC has announced that Christer Björkman will once again help them find the act that will represent them in Lisbon in 2018.

The lucky singer, who will fly the Cyrpiot act in 2018 will sing the song that will be composed by Alex Papaconstantinou, who has already composed three entries for Eurovision.

Helping out once again

This is not the first time that Björkman has helped Cyprus. When the country returned to the competition in 2015, CyBC enlisted Christer for its competition “Eurovision Song Project”.

This resulted in John Karayiannis representing the country with this song “One Thing I Should Have Done” in which they qualified for the Grand Final after not qualifying in their last participation.

Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest

Cyprus first appeared in the contest back in 1981 with the song “Monika” sang by the group Island which placed a respectable sixth place. Since its debut in 1981, the country has participated 34 times and in the Grand Final 24 times.

In 2017, Cyprus internally selected Hovig to represent them in Kyiv. His song “Gravity”, qualified for the Grand Final and managed to finish 21st overall in the competition with 68 points.

Do you think that Christer Bjorkman might help Cyprus continue its qualification streak?. Are you excited to find out who will be representing Cyrpus?. Let us know your opinions and thoughts below or at social media @ESCXTRA.

I started watching Eurovision ever since I moved to the UK in 2006, obsessed since 2012 and haven't looked back since.
