The submission deadline for entries for Montenegro’s national final, expired on December 15th. A total of 30 entries have been submitted which will be narrowed down to five for Montevizija 2018.
After many years of internal selections, RTCG the Montenegrin broadcaster will organize a national final to mark the country’s participation in Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon.
Montevizija 2018 – date and venue
A five-member jury, consisting of three Montenegrins and two foreigners, will choose five songs to compete in Montevizija 2018. The event will likely be held on February 17th at the Hilton Hotel in the capital of Podgorica. The final winner who will be representing the country in the Eurovision Song Contest next May will be selected exclusively by the televote.
Vladimir Maras, the head of the Montenegrin mission, stressed that winning is always the goal, although this is very difficult. However, the main goal remains the qualification to the final.
The Rules
RTCG has released information regarding the rules that apply to interested artists/composers. Some of which include:
- Artists/Composers from all over the world can submit their entries
- The lyrics of the entries have to be in the official language of Montenegro
- Each artist can submit up to two entries
- The submission process concludes by mid December
Montenegro at Eurovision
The beautiful mountainous Balkan country has taken part at the Eurovision Song Contest 9 times, managing to qualify for the grand final on two occasions only, in 2014 and 2015.
Their highest scoring entry to date is their 2015 entry “Adio” by Knez.
Despite not qualifying for the grand final, Montenegro’s 2017 representative – Slavko remains one of the most memorable characters of this year’s contest. His entry “Space” finished 16th out of 18 competing songs in the first semi final.
