Germany: “Unser Lied für Lissabon” to take place on February 22nd!

Breaking news from Germany this evening as ARD confirm that their national final for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest will take place on February 22nd! The show, Unser Lied für Lissabon (Our Song for Lisbon), will be hosted in Germany’s capital city of Berlin.

Auditions have taken place

Over the past few days, Germany’s Eurovision plans stepped up a gear. Auditions have taken place with the candidates being judged by the “Europe Panel” which consists of 100 Germans. Acts amongst the auditionees include Ivy Quainoo, Voxxclub and a so-called “Mystery Band” that is rumoured to be the very popular Frida Gold. The winner will be crowned in late February

Then, the successful auditionees will progress to the German televised national final. We now know this will be taking place in Berlin on February 22nd as revealed by the official Germany Eurovision Twitter account as seen below!

Love, oh love!

Over the past few years, Germany has struggled to achieve success in the Eurovision Song Contest. Ann Sophie and Jamie-Lee both placed last in the grand final in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Earlier this year, Levina slightly improved by finishing in 25th place with Perfect Life. Therefore, there is no doubt ARD will be doing everything they can to find their way back to the success of the early 2010s when Lena and Roman Lob secured Germany three consecutive top ten finishes, as well as that all-important victory!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
