Israel: 20 through to the live heats of The Next Star

Israel now have twenty singers through to the next stage of their Eurovision selection ‘The Next Star’. After an extensive auditions process, 20 singers have been chosen by the four-member jury to go through to the live shows. 

Ten audition rounds were broadcast over the last two months, the first at the end of October. Out of the 120 artists, 70 made it it through to the shortlisting round, broadcast at the end of December. After seeing all seventy perform again, the four-member jury chose 20 singers for the live shows:

  • Riki Ben Ari
  • Jonathan Margi
  • Adva Omer
  • Neta Barzilai
  • Jose Steinberg
  • Chen Aharoni
  • Shir Baruch
  • Eden Meiri
  • The Yamanz
  • Sarit Hativa
  • Jaki Gaforov
  • Ofir Harush
  • The Choice
  • Gal Yaakoni
  • Axum
  • Shir Gadasi
  • Tal Mizrahi
  • Howie Danao
  • Ravit Batashvili
  • Rinat Bar

The jury is made up of:

  • Harel Skkat – Israel’s 2010 Eurovision representative
  • Assaf Amdursky – singer/songwriter/producer
  • Keren Peles – singer/songwriter
  • Static & Ben El Tavori – mainstream pop duo

The first heat of the live shows is on Thursday 4th January. Ninet Tayeb will be a guest judge voting for the performances, the first time a guest judge has been used in the history of the competition.

Israel at Eurovision

Israel has participated in Eurovision 40 times since their debut back in 1973 and have won 3 times. Since the introduction of semi finals, Israel has had varied success however they have managed to qualify the previous 3 years. In 2015, Nadav Guedj achieved 9th place in the final bringing the country their best result since 2005. This year, Imri flew the Israeli flag in Kyiv and achieved 23rd place in the final.
