🇩🇰 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021 to be held on March 6

Since the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year, DR has confirmed that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will take place. This therefore means that 2020 winners Ben & Tan will not have an automatic right to represent Denmark at the 2021 contest.

Now that we are well into the new Eurovision season, DR has announced that the 2021 edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will take place on the 6th March.

Eight songs to compete for the right to represent Denmark at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest

Along with the confirmation of the 2021 edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, DR has also released the rules for artists who are interested in taking part for next year’s competition.

Looking through the rules, the change is mostly around the fact that only eight artists will be competing in the 2021 edition (which is a decrease to the ten usually competing).

In addition, the competition will take place at DR Byen, basically foregoing an arena show for the 2021 edition. Earlier this year, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix had to forego a studio audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the announcement, DR has now confirmed that they are now accepting submissions until the 20th November on the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix website.

Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest

Denmark first appeared in the contest in the second edition in 1957 and participated in total of 46 times. It won the contest three times: in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann, in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers and 2013 with Emmelie de Forest. Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, it failed to reach the final on four occasions.

In 2020, Ben & Tan won the right to represent Denmark at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. Unfortunately, the contest was cancelled, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The duo was set to perform 12th at the 2nd Semi-Final of the compeition.
