An Xtra Happy Birthday; January 15th!

Yesterday on the 14th of January, there were few who had a birthday. Today there are two birthday Eurovision Stars. One performed in 1996 with a big group for his country, but they sung in Breton! The other one performed in 1999 in a rainbow dress. Dan Ar Braz and Lydia were born on this day.

Dan Ar Braz, 69

France internally selected Dan and the group L’Héritage des Celtes to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996. That is why they went on stage in Oslo, Norway with their song, “Diwanit bugale”. This was the first time Breton was sung in Eurovision. The slow Celtic influenced song got 18 points at the final and therefore finished 19th out of 23 acts.

Lydia, 38

Spain selected Lydia to be their representative in 1999. She went on stage in Jerusalem, Israel, where she sang “No quiero escuchar”. Her dress was quite colorful and gave people something to notice! Unfortunately the song did not receive as much attention, because it only scored one point at the final.
