An Xtra Happy Birthday; January 19th!

Yesterday on 18th of January, an artist from Montenegro had a birthday. Today however are three Eurovision singers that celebrate their birthday. There is some difference in their age as well as none of them performed at the Eurovision stage at the same year. The Eurovision singers that are born on this day; Lena Philipsson, Alexey Vorobyov and Iris!

Lena Philipsson (Ph), 52

Sweden picked the song “Det gör ont” in 2004 to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul, Turkey. However the song was performed in English at the contest. That is “It Hurts” which ended in 5th place at the final. Before that Lena Ph had competed three time at Meldodifestivalen as a singer (1986, 1987 and 1988). As well as another two time has a composer (1991 and 1999).

Alexey Vorobyov, 30

Russia chose the singer Alex  to take part on their behalf at Eurovision in 2011. That is why he went on stage in Dusseldorf, Germany. The song “Get You” got was lively performed with three active dancers. Vorobyov advanced from semi final to the grand final. There the act scored 77 points, therefore it reached 15th place.

Like Lena Philipsson, Alex had tried few times at his national selections. He entered the Russian national selection in 2008 and 2009. Although the 2009 entry was withdrawn because of conflict regarding employment schedule.

Iris, 23

VTR- the Belgian television station selected Iris to be their act in 2012. That is why she went on the stage in Baku, Azerbaijan. The song, “Would You?”, was performed at the first semi final. Unfortunately for Iris, the song came quite far from reaching the final, that is 17th out of 18 songs.
