Jamala to perform in the national finals of Germany and Romania

It has been announced that the 2016 Eurovision winner Jamala will be performing in the national finals of both Germany and Romania this weekend.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Jamala was forced to flee Ukraine with her children and is currently staying in Istanbul with her sister. This weekend she will be travelling first to Germany, to perform in their national selection Germany 12 points, and to Romania, to make an appearance on the final of Selecția Națională 2022.

Next to the 2016 winner Jamala, many Eurovision 2022 artists are set to perform in Romania’s national final this Saturday. The broadcaster has invited artists from seven countries to perform their entries. In Germany, the show will have guest appearances from Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst and the lead singer of Germany’s 2006 representative Texas Lightning, Jane Comerford.

Jamala won the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with her song “1944”, song that tells about the persecution of her Crimean Tatar ancestors. Earlier this year she was one of the jurors in Ukraine’s national selection for Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
