An Xtra Happy Birthday; January 23nd!

Yesteday, on 22nd of January, three Eurovision artists had a birthday. Today however, two Eurovision stars have a birtday. Both of them took part as a group. And one of them was part of the winning act Lordi! Sigrún Eva and Stala, also known as Kita, were born on this day!

Sigrún Eva Ármannsdóttir, 50

Iceland selected the group Heart 2 Heart to perfrom on their behalf in 1992. Therefore Sigrún and her band members went on stage in Malmö, Sweden. The song is called “Nei eða Já” and it got 70 points at the end of the show. It reached the 7th place out of 23 acts.

In 1994 Sigrún Eva took part in Söngvakeppnin, the Icelandic national selection, and her song won it. However RUV decide to change the song and change the singer of the song “Nætur”. And her college from Heart 2 Heart, Sigga Beinteinns, was selected to perform it instead of her.

Stala, 43 (Kita, Sampsa Astala)

Finland decided to do Eurovision with different approch in 2006, when they selected their entry for Eurovision. Because they chose this full costumed rock band to perform. Stala, then called Kita, was the drummer of the band Lordi. Since they were chosen, they performed their song “Hard Rock Hallelujah” in Athens, Greece.

This selection did the trick, because their entry won the semifinal as well as winning the final. That was the first time in Eurovision history, that an entry had won both!

Stala tried again for Eurovision in 2011, when he went with his new band Stala & So. There they reached the final with the song “Pamela“. However as you might know, they lost to Paradise Oskar.
