The Cypriot rumour mill just keeps on spinning! INFE Greece has now reported that the songwriter of this year’s Eurovision entry for Cyprus, Alex Papaconstantinou, has travelled back to the Greek capital city of Athens to record a new demo of the all-important song. But who is the artist he’s working with?
A final meeting on Friday
Indeed, it is widely rumoured that the “well-known” artist Alex is working with is Eleni Foureira. Whoever this artist is, once the demo recording is completed on Friday, it is expected that the artist, their record label and CyBC will meet to discuss whether to go ahead with the project together.
Second choice artist in place?
In the event that an agreement is not reached, it is expected that CyBC will revert back to their auditions process. This originally took place for a now-cancelled national final. Winner of X Factor Bulgaria Christiana Loizu is believed to be amongst those auditionees. Indeed, she is reportedly the likely second choice of the broadcaster should Friday’s meeting not go successfully.
Last week, the internet was buzzing with substantial rumours that 2005 Eurovision winner Helena Paparizou was in final negotiations to represent the island nation. However, any negotiations that did take place are now believed to have fallen through.
Does Cyprus have a winning Eurovision track?
Nevertheless, both Helena is said to have claimed Alex P’s track has “major hit potential”. Tamta, who CyBC also reportedly approached but turned down the offer due to a busy schedule, also reportedly stated this.
