Will a quartet represent Croatia at Eurovision 2018?

Croatia is one of the more silent broadcasters this year. However, it now seems HRT have woken up. On Twitter, they posted a picture with four silhouettes. Is the Croatian broadcaster hinting at a quartet for Lisbon?

Internal selection confirmed?

In late 2017, it seemed HRT had cancelled their original plans. At first, HRT was to stage a national final for Lisbon. Their successful concept of Dora was going to return as the selection format for the Eurovision Song Contest.

However, later on, rumours arose that an internal selection was going to be used. Croatian media outlet 24Sata reported that HRT were considering three names for Lisbon: Indira Levak, Franka and Kedžo.

HRT now seems to have dropped a new hint. The picture on their official Facebook page shows four silhouettes. Looking at those four, we presumably see two men and two women. Could it be that a four piece band is representing Croatia? Or are they forming a group, especially for the Eurovision Song Contest? The latter option would be a throwback to 2013, when Klapa s Mora was formed especially to represent Croatia in Malmö.

Croatia are awfully silent this year. Except for what looks like a confirmation of an internal selection, we don’t know anything. We’re excited to hear more from them soon!

Croatia and Eurovision 2018

Croatia are looking to make it three out of three on qualifications since their return. After withdrawing from the contest after Malmö, Croatia returned in 2016. Nina Kraljic then represented the country with “Lighthouse”. Their best result in years came in 2017, when Jacques Houdek brought “My Friend” to Kyiv, finishing in thirteenth.

The last Croatian top ten dates back to 2001, with Vanna singing “Strings of my Heart”. She then finished in tenth place. Their best result ever is a fourth place, achieved in both 1996 and 1999.
