Tomorrow we will hear the first snippets of the songs competing in the first semifinal of Melodifestivalen 2018. Before that, let’s learn more about the artists taking part in deltävling 1.
Sigrid Bernson – ”Patrick Swayze”
Sigrid Bernson will open the show with “Patrick Swayze”. The song is written by Josefin Glenmark, Andrej Kamnik, Peg Parnevik and Sigrid herself.
Sigrid says they didn’t write the song for Melodifestivalen and it’s an energetic song with Icona Pop-vibes. The song is a tribute for Dirty Dancing actor Patrick Swayze. The movie is also Sigrid’s favourite. She also says that the former Melodifestivalen song that is closest to hers is Ace Wilder’s “Busy Doin’ Nothin'”.
29-year-old Sigrid has been a professional dancer on Swedish version of Dancing with the Stars. She also won the competition three times. In 2016 she met Samir Badran on the show and they started dating. Samir will compete in the second semifinal of Melodifestivalen 2018 with Viktor Frisk.
John Lundvik – “My Turn”
John Lundvik will sing the song “My Turn”. He wrote the song together with Anna-Klara Folin and Jonas Thander. Jonas Thander was one of the songwriters on Donny Montell’s Eurovision entry “I’ve Been Waiting for This Night”.
John says the song is a modern ballad and it’s about his journey from writing music to others to getting on stage to sing them himself.
He says the songs reminds most “Moving On” by Sarah Dawn Finer.
It’s also a powerballad, a modern ballad. I feel that it might have described her trip, and that feature has “My Turn” also a flavor of.
Renaida – “All the Feels”
Another Melodifestivalen debutant Renaida will sing the song “All the Feels”. It’s written by Laurell Barker, Peter Barringer, Jon Hällgren and Lukas Hällgren.
Renaida took part in Swedish Idol in 2016. Next to Melodifestivalen, she is also currently acting on the Aladdin musical.
Renaida says her entry will have lots of dance, fun and energy. She hopes to give a show what we haven’t seen before. She says she has been following Melodifestivalen for many years.
Edward Blom – “Livet på en pinne”
Archivist, cultural historian, gastronomist, business historian, writer, catholic and television personality Edward Blom will sing the song “Livet på en pinne”. The song is written by Eurovision winning composer Thomas G:son together with Stefan Brunzell, Kent Olsson and Edward himself.
Edward Blom says the song follows all the modern requirements, but it flirts with older styles. He says the song is a lot like Melodifestivalen 1961 winner, Siw Malmkvist’s “April, april”´.
The lyrics of the song are about eating and drinking well, being together with loved ones and enjoying the pleasures of joy in life.
Kikki Danielsson – “Osby Tennessee”
Kikki Danielsson is a Melodifestivalen veteran and has taken part nine times already. Two times she has won the contest, in 1982 as a part of the group Chips and in 1985 with “Bra vibrationer”. Most recently she took part in 2006 and finished tenth in the final.
The song “Osby Tennessee” is written by Kikki Danielsson and Sulo Karlsson. Kikki says the song is her biography in three minutes. She says the song is a quiet country song with steel guitar and a little accordion.
The lyrics tell a story about how the little girl from Osby went to Nashville. Kikki says that it was not even a dream, because it was so unattainable.
Kamferdrops – “Solen lever kvar hos dig”
Norwegian Kamferdrops will take part in Melodifestivalen for the first time. The song “Solen lever kvar hos dig” is written by Danne Attlerud, Martin Klaman, Erik Smaaland, Herbert Trus, Kristoffer Tømmerbakke and Kamferdrops.
According to Kamferdrops, with the song they are trying to build bridges between dansbands and tropical music. She says it will also have glitter and pink and she hopes that the mix between the authentic dansband and the modern style will bring some glitter, unicorns and pink wings to the whole show.
Kamferdrops is performing with a mask and she says that because we don’t know how she looks, she can be everyone and everyone can be her.
Benjamin Ingrosso – “Dance You Off”
Closing the show is Benjamin Ingrosso, who is coming back to Melodifestivalen after finishing fifth last year with “Good Lovin'”. This year’s entry is written by Benjamin Ingrosso, MAG, Louis Schoorl and K Nita.
Benjamin says that the song describes the story that happened after “Good Lovin'” and that the lyrics are little darker.
When it comes to the lyrics, this is “Good Lovin'” part two, where I sang that I missed what we had and want it again. This song tells more that I don’t like how you play with me and I have to move on.
Benjamin’s song will have a minimalist club vibe. He also says that the song will have a lot of falsetto, especially on the chorus.
