Ireland’s broadcaster RTÉ announced today that Ryan O’Shaughnessy will fly the Irish flag in Lisbon. He will sing “Together”.
The song to be a ballad
25-year-old Ryan O’Shaughnessy has taken part in The Voice of Ireland and Britain’s Got Talent. In The Voice of Ireland he was part of Brian Kennedy’s team, but was eliminated on the first live show. The same year he finished fifth in Britain’s Got Talent.
He also took part in The Hit in 2013 and competed against his former The Voice of Ireland coach Bryan Kennedy. He finished as a runner-up in the final of the contest.
Ryan has written his entry “Together” together with Mark Caplice and Laura Elizabeth Hughes.
I plan on doing Ireland proud by bringing a song and performance to Eurovision that we haven’t seen since the days of Rock and Roll Kids.
Next to writing his own songs, Ryan also plays saxophone, guitar and piano. Ryan is not the first Eurovision artist of his family. His uncle Gary O’Shaughnessy represented Ireland in 2001 with “Without Your Love”.
Ireland at Eurovision Song Contest
Ireland has failed to qualify to the Eurovision final every year since 2013. Then they finished last in the final, when Ryan Dolan represented the country with “Only Love Survives”.
Last year Brendan Murray represented Ireland with “Dying To Try” and finished 13th in the second semifinal.
