As most of you know by now, Guðmundur Þórarinsson is not just good at singing and writing songs. He’s also a world class footballer who’s played in several clubs abroad, including Nordskjælland (Denmark) and Rosenborg (Norway). Currently he’s in IFK Norrköping in Sweden.
Guðmundur – football or Söngvakeppnin?
A lot of us have been wondering a bit about the fact that Guðmundur was to compete in the second Söngvakeppnin semi-final, on 17 February. “Why?” you ask? Well, because Norrköping is playing a match in the Swedish Cup on that day, that’s why. And since we haven’t heard anything about him being injured (knock on wood!) this did seem more than a bit strange.
Football AND Söngvakeppnin
Today we received the news that Guðmundur’s two entries will trade places in the semis. This means Gyða Margrét Kristjánsdóttir and Þórir Geir Guðmundsson will perform “Brosa” in semi two. “Litir”, which Guðmundur performs himself, will participate in semi one, on Saturday.
Semi-final 1
This means that the first semi-final of Söngvakeppnin 2018 will look like this;
- Heim – Ari Ólafsson
- Aldrei gefast upp – Fókus
- Ég mun skína – Þórunn Antonía
- Guðmundur – Litir
- Ég og þú – Tómas og Sólborg
- Kúst og fæjó – Heimilistónar
Three of these songs will advance directly to the final which takes place on 3 March. Like last year, the semi-finals will happen in Háskólabíó, while the grand final will take place in Laugardalshöll. After the second semi-final a jury might choose a seventh song to compete in the final alongside the six direct qualifiers.
Make sure to check out our presentation of this year’s participants and songwriters, and also the teams preview and review.
Which three songs do you think will qualify from the first semi-final?
