First four finalists revealed in A Dal

Tonight Hungary chose their first batch of finalists in the first of two A Dal semi-finals. In the weeks prior, three heats reduced 30 entries to 18, and tonight another five were eliminated as four finalists emerged. Both juries and the public had their say to select the lucky four songs.

A Dal semi-final 1

Nine songs competed tonight but only four qualified to the final that will take place on February 24th. In the first round, the jury vote and the public vote (consisting of votes from SMS, online voting, and the mobile app) were combined. From this, the three songs with the highest score qualified.
In the second round, the remaining six songs battled it out for the last qualification. This time the jury had no say as only the public vote counted.

Hungary in Eurovision Song Contest

Hungary is one of the more successful Eurovision countries in recent years. They have qualified seven years in a row and last year Joci Pápai’s “Origo” brought them an honorable 8th place finish in Kyiv. Whoever ends up flying the Hungarian flag in Lisbon this year will have a tough act to follow.
