The Cypriot National broadcaster, CyBC, has reveals that their Eurovision entry “Fuego”, performed by Eleni Foureira will be revealed towards the end of February.
In addition to that, the Cypriot Head of Delegation, Evi Papamichael says that preparations for the music video are in full swing. Describing their vision as:
[…] something impressive, energetic and fit with the song and Eleni’s stage presence.
About Fuego
Following her announcement as the Cypriot representative, Eleni held a press conference in Greece where she revealed more about the song as well as her plans regarding Eurovision.
However, in true Eurovision manner Eleni tried to not reveal too much in order make the premiere of the song that much more exciting. Some of the words she used to describe “Fuego” are:
dynamic, dance, modern with ethnic elements and more specifically clarinet, impressive and uptempo
“Fuego” was written by Greek-Swedish composer Alex Papaconstantinou. His long list of music collaborations include the likes of Enrique Inglesias and Jennifer Lopez.
Despite enjoying international success, Alex has signed his name to a few Eurovision fan favourites as well, such as Helena Paparizou and her old group Antique.
Sacha Jean-Baptiste will be responsible for staging Eleni’s fiery “Fuego” in Lisbon. Sacha has directed several successful entries over the past three years, among those being Armenia 2016 “Lovewave” and Bulgaria 2017 “Beautiful Mess”.
Sadly, due to demanding schedule Eleni will not be partaking in the promo tour ahead of the contest. That means she will miss out on the Amsterdam, London, Riga, Tel Aviv and Madrid concerts.
Eleni Foureira & Eurovision
Eleni Foureira is not totally unknown to the fans of Eurovision. She tried to represent Greece in Eurovision Song Contest 2010 together with Manos Pyrovolakis and the song “I kyvotos tou Noe” (Noah’s ark) ending up second overall.
Eleni made a second attempt to represent Greece in Eurovision in 2016. Unfortunately ERT rejected Eleni and went for the group Argo instead.
Will Cyprus keep their qualification streak for the third year in a row? Are you looking forward to hearing Eleni’s Eurovision entry? Do you think she could give Cyprus its best result at the contest yet? What is your favorite Cypriot entry at Eurovision so far?
