The Scoop

Melodifestivalen 2018 viewing figures down compared to SF1

Last Saturday the second semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2018 took place in Gothenburg. Seven new acts took part. Samir & Victor and LIAMOO made it to the final in Stockholm. SVT now reports that the viewing figures are down by 400k people compared to the first semi-final. What is the reason? The participants? Olympics?

No need to worry in Sweden

During the Olympics, these TV ratings are normal for the Swedish pre-selection show. In 2010 Peter Jöback made sure to perform before a famous race took place at the Olympics in fear, that many people would not watch his performance.

@SVTmelfest tweeted:
Provisional viewing figure for #Melfest drops this week to 2.916.000. Web and on-demand viewers, radio listeners etc. not included. The figure is slightly higher than the corresponding one from the Olympic season in 2010 but slightly lower than in 2014.

The Olympics will last till all semi-finals are done. After that, we will see what the second chance and the final show will achieve.

The next semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2018 will take place in Malmö on Saturday. We’ll bring you closer to the show this time. Stay tuned to see, what we have planned for you.

Dominik Rössing

Hey, I'm Dominik from Germany. Watched my first Eurovision in 2003 and I was in love right away! Attended my first contest in 2011 and every contest since 2013. The same happened with Melodifestivalen. Started watching in 2006 and been to every final since 2017 and try to make it to at least one heat each year, too. After all, Melodifestivalen is the real deal ♥

  1. Have some artists from other countries to showcase their songs in each semi final in hope to get votes from Sweden in the contest
