Xtra’s pick of the 21st century

It’s Friday, it’s almost the weekend, and it’s time for our weekly pick from the Eurovision of the new millennium. Today, it’s Wivian‘s turn to choose a song from the 2000s.

Serbia & Montenegro 2005: No Name – Zauvijek Moja (7th place)

Selecting one (Seriously?! Just one?!?!) song from the 21st century is almost impossible, since this is very much my Eurovision era. But this was my challenge this week, and I love me a good challenge.
So how to pick (just) one?
Well, I could go with my favorite ever Eurovision entry. Or my favorite Norwegian entry. (Actually my top three Norwegian entries…) Or my favorite French/Israeli/Danish/Turkish/”just-about-any-country” entry… Hihihi!
But I decided to go with the entry that has grown on me the most. Back in 2005, when it represented Serbia&Montenegro, I probably had it in 5th or 6th place, but over the years it has slowly crept it’s way into my “top 10 ever” list. On a good (Balkan mood) day it might even be in my top 5. I’m not sure how this happened, I just know it did.
Examining “Zauvijek moja” with my preferences in mind, though, it’s not really all that surprising after all.
Male voices – check
National language (and what a wonderful language it is!) – check
Unusual drum beat – check
Drums touched by human hands, not “canned” – check
Melody lines that are singalong friendly – check
Strings (even an air violin…hihihi!) – check
A few ethnic dance moves – check
Cute guys (not a requirement, but it helps…) – check
Y – pose (no less than SIX of them!!) at the end – check
And it has this…call it X factor…that always makes me smile!
And the louder you play it, the better it is! (I’m sure my neighbors agree with me on this…)
So yeah… I guess this kinda answers my question about “how this happened”.
