Alekseev wins Eurofest 2018 and will represent Belarus at Eurovision

Alekseev has just won the Belarusian national final ‘Eurofest’ and will represent Belarus at Eurovision 2018 with the song “Forever”
Ten participants competed for the right to represent Belarus in Lisbon.  After all finalists had finished performing and a brief musical interlude, the televote was announced.  This vote put Alekseev in the lead, ahead of Shuma in 2nd and Kirill Gud 3rd.
Once the jury votes came through, and combined with the televote, Alekseev was announced as the winner, having also won the jury vote.

Recently, there was some controversy over the participation of the Alekseev. Fellow finalists had threatened to quit the show as it was believed that Alekseev’s song was in breach of the show’s rules. Broadcaster BTRC eventually ruled the song eligible to participate and but Sofi Lapina withdrew in protest, leading to a 10-song national final.

Belarus in 2017

Last year in Kyiv, Belarus sent the duo Naviband with the song ‘Historyja majho zyccia’.  The song was the first ever entry to be sung in the Belarusian language at the adult Eurovision Song Contest.  Belarus qualified for the final and finished in 17th place with 83 points.

As a writer with the Eurovision disposition it was only inevitable that I should find myself merging these two interests. If it wasn't Sonia singing "Better the Devil You Know" that got me hooked on Eurovision, then it was the Gina G banger "Just a Little Bit". The 90's is where it all started for me, who knows where I'll end up!
