With just hours to go until the third semi final of Melodifestivalen kicks off, one of tonight’s competing songs has been subject to a major leak.
The full version of Jessica Andersson’s ‘Party Voice’ began surfacing on the Russian social network VK.com shortly after 13.00 CET. It wasn’t long before the track began spreading like wildfire across online forums and social media.
While fans are quite happy to be in receipt of a full length Mello track prior to the live show, it’s an incredibly frustrating situation for broadcaster SVT, who aim to give each of the competing artists a fair level playing field.
SVT unlikely to issue a punishment, announcement expected shortly
Although details of the leak’s source are currently unknown, it is unlikely that SVT will impose a sanction on Jessica Andersson. On a number of previous occasions, songs competing in the competition were accidentally made available early, usually at the fault of a distributer. As the artist themselves were not at fault, SVT did not issue any punishment. While an announcement by the broadcaster is yet to be made, we expect the same rules to apply with this case.
Update: Leak goes beyond Jessica’s entry
While the leak was initially only Jessica Anderrson’s entry ‘Party Voice’, it seem’s the problem is now a major one as full versions of several other acts are starting to surface online. We have reached out to SVT for comment on the matter.
Melodifestivalen continues tonight at 20:00 CET. A live stream will be available on SVT Play.
