A lot of things are happening in the lives of former Eurovision participants in the United Kingdom these days. Today we bring you little tidbits on Jade Ewen, Sandie Shaw and The Fizz!
Sandie Shaw finally honoured with an MBE
Sandie Shaw represented the United Kingdom at the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. She gave the country its first Eurovision victory with her performance of “Puppet on a String”. In addition to winning, she might be best remembered for being barefoot on stage.
Over 50 years after taking the trophy home, she was finally honoured with an MBE at Buckingham Palace. After having received the MBE from Prince Charles, she shared a question he’d asked her;
“Why? Why has it taken so long for you to get here?”
Her answer to this?
“I told him the truth. The truth is that women in music haven’t tended to be honoured in the past, certainly not in the Sixties.”
Although much of her popularity stem from her 1967 Eurovision victory, she doesn’t take any interest in the contest. She didn’t even watch the United Kingdom’s entry being selected. Instead she tuned in to “Silent Witness”.

Jade Ewen engaged to boyfriend (now fiancée) Daniel
Jade Ewan represented the United Kingdom at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. She finished in a very respectable fifth place, performing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “It’s My Time”. This is, still to this day, the country’s best result since 2002.
Jade revealed on her Instagram that she’s gotten engaged to her longtime boyfriend, actor Daniel de Bourg. Flashing bot her diamond ring and a very happy smile, she shared that he had proposed on Valentine’s day.
“Happy Valentine’s Day to my one and only.. 💖💕💝💞💗#valentinesday #soulmate #twinflames #love #oneandonly #futurehubby #luckiestgirlintheworld”
The Fizz goes back to being a trio
Bucks Fizz won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Making Your Mind Up”. Since 2015, three of the original four members of the group, along with Bobby McVay, now known as The Fizz, have been touring extensively.
In late January, however, the band posted the following message on their facebook page;
“We have some very sad news to announce. As most of you are aware, Fizz member Bobby Mcvay lives in Italy. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly difficult for Bobby to commute between Italy and the UK (and more so over the last year) even to the point whereby on occasions, Bobby is literally spending a matter of hours in each country at a time and the travelling has become quite a strain on him. Therefore, it is with much sadness that we tell you that Bobby has now left the band.”
This means that The Fizz is back to being a trio, consisting of Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston.
So, there you have it; a quick little update on some of the goings on in the UK. Do you think it was time for Sandie Shaw to be honoured with an MBE? Are you hoping for a proposal like Jade’s next Valentine’s day? And might you be the new fourth member of The Fizz?
