Lisbon 2018

“Fuego” to be revealed on 2 March

The wait is finally over! Cyprus has announced the release date for their song; “Fuego” will be released on March 2nd, in just one week from now!

The anticipated release

After revealing Eleni Foureira as their artist a few weeks ago, CyBC has revealed the release date for their song. “Fuego” will premiere on CyBC at 20:00 local time (19:00 CET), during the broadcaster’s newscast.

The song was composed by Alex P, known for various Eurovision entries including the 2012 Cypriot entry “La La Love”. Meanwhile, his most recent Eurovision-related contribution was the 2016 entry“Cool Me Down”, which came second in the Polish national selection.
Apart from the composers, we know two other contributors for the Cypriot entry; Sacha Jean-Baptiste will be in charge for the staging of the song in Lisbon, while Apollo Papatheocharis was the director for its music video.

Cyprus in Eurovision

Cyprus debuted in the competition in 1981 and has since then competed in 34 contests. Their best result to date is the 5th place achieved on three different occasions; in 1982 with “Mono i agapi”, in 1997 with “Mana mou”, and in 2004 with “Stronger Every Minute”.
Despite their recent success in managing to qualify to the final in every year since 2015, the country still hasn’t made their way to the top 10 since 2004. Will 2018 be their year?
Are you looking forward to listen to the Cypriot entry? Do you think Eleni can bring the victory to the Mediterranean island?

Dimitris Ioannou

I'm Dimitris, from Cyprus. Eurovision has been a big part of my life for so long now. My first memories of the contest go back to 2005, which was a special year as Greece had won with Helena Paparizou. But 2009 was truly the first year I became a die-hard Eurofan, which is why that year holds a special place in my heart.
