While the juries placed Tayanna first, giving her 6 points, the televote only gave her 4 points and therefore was not enough for her to win. Melovin despite coming second on the juries voting managed to win the televote and therefore will represent Ukraine in Lisbon.

Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest

Ukraine made its first appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003. They didn’t have to wait much until their first victory, as Ruslana won the contest in 2004 with her song “Wild Dances”, bringing the contest to Ukraine for the first time. Over the years the country has achieved amazing results, placing in the top 10 nine times out of 14 attempts at the contest. In 2016 Jamala achieved the second victory for Ukraine with her song “1944”, and therefore the last edition of the contest was once again held in Kyiv. Today the country has chosen their representative for the next edition of the contest to take place in Lisbon. Melovin and his song “Under the Ladder” will fly to Portugal and represent Ukraine next May.
