Israel has announced their song for Netta Barzilai, as well as its release date; the winner of HaKokhav HaBa L’Eirovizion will perform “Toy” for her country in Lisbon.
The song selection
Earlier this month, the Israeli broadcaster launched their application phase, which let interested songwriters to submit their songs. Within these three weeks, IPBC received about 150 songs, from which 5 were shortlisted by the jury.
According to sources, the jury met today and a final decision on the song was made. The chosen song for Netta is “Toy”, which was written by Doron Medalie (composer of Golden Boy and Made of Stars) and Stav Beger. The song is performed in English and will be presented on 10 March, while it will be available on digital platforms the next day.
Israel in Eurovision
Israel has been competing in the contest since 1973 and has since competed in 40 contests! The country has managed to win the competition three times; in 1978, in 1979 and 1998. Last year, the country Imri represented the country with his song I Feel Alive and despite its 3rd place in the semi-final, it only placed 23rd in the final.
