Lisbon 2018

Eleni Foureira releases fierce Eurovision effort ‘Fuego’

The wait is finally over! Just a few minutes ago, CyBC released ‘Fuego’, the song that will represent the country in Lisbon! Both the song and the music video were presented during the broadcaster’s newscast.

Cyprus is on fire!

After revealing their artist to be Eleni Foureira over a month ago, the Cypriot broadcaster presented their song for Lisbon today! ‘Fuego’ is a fierce and current pop track with southern influences and a very strong choreo. The song will be available on streaming services on March 8.
The song was composed by Alex P., who also composed ‘La La Love’, the best placed Cypriot entry of the decade. Apollon Papatheocharis, known for directing various music videos in the Greek industry, was in charge for directing the song’s music video.

Who is Eleni Foureira?

Eleni Foureira is a big name in the Greek music industry, producing big hits in the country during past few years. Before her big breakout, she was part of the girl group Mystique between 2007 and 2009. She released four studio albums in total, with her latest one being Vasilissa in late 2017. In 2015, she also tried out acting for an original musical in Greece titled Barbarella, along fellow Eurovision singers Katy Garbi and Ivi Adamou.
Eleni is also no stranger to the Eurovision stage and fans. Eleni tried to represent Greece in the contest back in 2010 when she performed ‘I Kivotos Tou Noe’ with Manos Pirovolakis, which placed second. She released a cover of the 2015 Israeli entry ‘Golden Boy’ titled ‘Sto Theo Me Paei’; the cover became a hit in both Greece and Cyprus. She also made appearances in the 2013 and 2015 Greek national selections.

The fortunate selection by CyBC

Eleni has been a big favorite to represent the country during the past few years. In 2016, Foureira attempted to represent Greece with ‘Come Tiki Tak’. However, the Greek broadcaster rejected the song. She made another attempt the following year, but was once again rejected by ERT.
After several attempts to get into the contest, the singer was eventually selected internally by the Cypriot broadcaster. The singer will represent the country in Lisbon for the 2018 contest and will perform ‘Fuego’ during the first semi-final.

Dimitris Ioannou

I'm Dimitris, from Cyprus. Eurovision has been a big part of my life for so long now. My first memories of the contest go back to 2005, which was a special year as Greece had won with Helena Paparizou. But 2009 was truly the first year I became a die-hard Eurofan, which is why that year holds a special place in my heart.
