Yesterday we celebrated two Eurovision birthday boys. We return today with four Eurostars to celebrate; two boys and two girls. They all come from the southern parts of the continent; Turkey, Malta, Greece and Spain. The Spanish birthday boy represented his country only last year; Manel Navarro!
Tarkan Tüzmen represented Turkey at the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham. There he performed the song “Unutamazsın”, finishing 14th. He also tried to represent his country in the two years prior to his participation. In 1996 he finished second with “Var mısın söyle“.
Morena represented Malta at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. She performed the song “Vodka” in the second semi-final. There she finished in 14th place, thus failing to qualify for the grand final. Morena also participated in the 2006 Malta Song for Europe, finishing 9th alongside Paul Giordimaina, singing “Time”. In addition to winning the national final with “Vodka, she also finished 5th with “Casanova“.
Eleni Foureira, 31
This is the very first time in the history of the escXtra birthday calendar that we include someone who hasn’t participated…yet! Eleni will represent Cyprus at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon come May. She will compete in the first semi-final, with the song “Fuego”.
Manel Navarro, 22
Manel Navarro represented Spain at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. He did so with the song “Do It For Your Lover”. He treated us to a very colorful and energetic performance. From starting position 16 he did however finish dead last, recieving only 5 points.
All of us here at escXtra want to wish Manel, Tüzmen, Eleni and Morena the very happiest of birthdays! However; another “wish” is also called for, as we wish Eleni the best of luck in May!
